Red Eléctrica commissions a new reactor at La Cereal substation

Red Eléctrica de España has invested 3.7 million euros in the construction and implementation of a reactor installed at the 400-kilovolt (kV) switchyard of the La Cereal substation, in the Madrid town of Tres Cantos.

This reactor, with a nominal power capacity of 150 megavolt amperes reactive, contributes to improving the safety of the electrical grid by regulating the appropriate parameters, ensuring the stability of transmission network voltage, and guaranteeing the security of the supply at all times.

La Cereal substation, with 400- and 220-kV switchyards, plays a pivotal role in both the meshing of the transmission network in the Autonomous Community of Madrid and in helping to supply high-speed trains.

The commissioning of this new reactor at the 400/220-kV La Cereal substation is one of the actions included in the 2015-2020 Electricity Infrastructure Planning, approved by the central government.

As part of this Planning, Red Eléctrica expects investments of 274 million euros through 2020 in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, a region that has 2,119 km of high-voltage circuits and 627, 400- and 220-kV positions.
