Red Eléctrica, committed to the path for a sustainable recovery

The Red Eléctrica Group is committed to a green solution to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. For the Company, the focus of this model must be on driving the energy transition, which needs to be articulated in five vectors: the decarbonisation of the economy, the integration of renewable energies, the promotion of energy efficiency, the protection of the natural environment and the commitment to a fair and inclusive transition. For Beatriz Corredor, Chairwoman of the Group, we must work towards achieving a “fair and inclusive energy transition - economically, socially and environmentally – with each one of us assuming our individual, institutional and corporate responsibilities”. In this regard, Red Eléctrica has joined initiatives both in Spain and internationally that are committed to sustainability as a lever for a post-crisis economic recovery.

The Group, through its Chairwoman, Beatriz Corredor, has signed up to the 'For a sustainable recovery' Manifesto, promoted by representatives from the world of politics, business, trade unions, science and the third sector in our country. The promoters defend that Spain must put the energy transition at the centre of economic recovery plans because only in this way will it be possible to advance towards a more prosperous, sustainable, healthy and resilient society.

The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has promoted the ‘Uniting Business and Governments to Recover Better’ Statement, which has also received the backing of the United Nations. The Red Eléctrica Group supports this Statement that has already been undertaken by more than 150 large corporations from 33 countries who pledge to promote a recovery focused on people, the 2030 Agenda and an ambitious climate action plan.
