The Rómulo project represented an electricity interconnection challenge that proved to be successful in paving the way to eliminating the electrical isolation of the Balearic Islands and enabled the integration of renewable generation from the mainland into the archipelago. The Proposed Circular (Official Notice) issued by the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) on 5 July, establishing the methodology for calculating the remuneration of the electrical energy transmission activity, introduces a series of relevant modifications to current regulations that do not favour the fulfilment of the strategic priorities established by the Government in energy matters.
