Electricity supply
100% of the electricity supply in Tenerife restored
  • After initial investigations, it is confirmed that the cause of the power outage was due to a generation failure.

Red Eléctrica de España (REE) has now completed the restoration of 100% of the electricity supply on the island of Tenerife, following the ‘zero energy’ situation registered this morning at 9:43 a.m. (Tenerife local time). Immediately after the incident, REE activated the power restoration protocol which is specifically foreseen for these situations and at 11:15 a.m. (local time on the islands), all the generating stations on the island had the necessary electricity supply to be able to produce electrical energy and by 12:00 midday the entire 66 kV transmission grid had been re-energised and was, therefore, available. The restoration of the supply to consumers was conditioned by the rate at which generators were incorporated into the electricity system.

Following initial investigations, it has been confirmed that the cause of the power outage was due to a generation failure. At the time of the incident no works or operations were being carried out on the transmission grid belonging to Red Eléctrica. Additionally, none of the elements of REE’s grid on the island was affected as a result of what happened. The Company regrets any inconvenience that may have been caused by this situation.
