A Cañiza hosts a classical music concert to mark Red Electrica’s 40th anniversary

On Saturday, 21st June, at 20:00, the Parish Church of Santa Cristina de Valeixe, in A Cañiza (Pontevedra), will host the first concert of the classical music tour organised by Red Eléctrica to celebrate its 40th anniversary in Galicia.

With this cultural initiative, the company, which is responsible for the transportation and operation of the electricity system in Spain, is offering chamber music in locations throughout the autonomous community. This aligns with its commitment to territorial development and equal access to culture. The initiative also aims to highlight the region’s historical and artistic heritage by revitalising symbolic buildings like churches, monasteries, and palaces through music.

Today’s concert in A Cañiza was officially announced at an event where the mayor, Luis Piña, expressed his gratitude for Red Eléctrica's musical initiative and bringing this event to his town to host the opening concert of the commemorative tour celebrating its 40th anniversary. He highlighted that "it recognises the cultural and patrimonial value of our municipality, especially of the Parish Church of Santa Cristina de Valeixe, a space with exceptional acoustics that has already proven to be an ideal venue for classical music. This will be the second concert hosted in this unique setting, and we are delighted to continue promoting activities that bring culture closer to our residents and project the image of A Cañiza beyond our borders”.

The Galicia Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Rogelio Groba Otero, will perform works by W. A. Mozart, E. Grieg, and Rogelio Groba, in a programme that combines a universal repertoire with contemporary creations by Galicia's most renowned and prolific composer. With over 25 years of experience and international renown, the Galicia Chamber Orchestra is one of the most prominent ensembles on the Galician musical scene, with a determined commitment to promoting culture in communities where it is less readily available.

Entry is free until capacity is reached.
