Works begin on Monday 17 and Red Eléctrica has agreed with the institutions on the alternative route, as well as the changes to public and school transport routes and, has also informed the businesses and citizens in the area
The car park at the Puig d'en Valls Health Centre and the sports facilities of the municipality will remain fully operational for users
Red Eléctrica will resume on Monday 17 October the civil works on the island of Ibiza that are associated with the land section of the route of the new 132 kilovolt (kV) link between Ibiza and Formentera and will focus on works on the Puig d'en Valls road.
These works on the Puig d'en Valls road are expected to last until 12 December approximately, during which time the road will be closed to traffic, and vehicles will need to use the Camí Vell de Sant Mateu road as an alternative road. The car park located at the junction with Carrer Torrent, next to the Health Centre and the municipal sports facilities, will remain fully operational for users. Once the works in the area of Puig d'en Valls have been completed, Red Eléctrica, in coordination with the Santa Eulària Town Council, will asphalt the entire road
In order to minimise the impact of these works on residents, businesses and transport services (both public and school), as well as on the population in general, a work plan has been developed which includes a traffic rerouting alternative agreed with the Santa Eulària Town Council and the Ibiza Island Council. Furthermore, direct communication channels have been established with the main stakeholders affected through meetings held by Red Eléctrica and the Town Council with residents and businesses in the area, the last of which took place yesterday afternoon and served to clarify any queries prior to the start of the work.
Similarly, and with the aim of informing the citizens, signs have been installed on nearby roads indicating the alternative route to the Puig d'en Valls road. Moreover, this information will also be duly communicated in the media and through the official channels of the different institutions involved.
As of this week, the Department of Transport of the Island Council and the companies that have a public transport concession have established alternative routes for the two bus lines that are affected and have informed the population of the changes. The bus lines that are affected are the 12A Eivissa-Puig d'en Valls-Jesús-Eivissa (which will continue to connect Puig d'en Valls with Jesús, but will no longer make the stops at Ciudad Jardín, Can Cisterna and Muebles la Fábrica) and the 12B Eivissa-Jesús-Puig d'en Valls-Eivissa, which will not make its stops on the Puig den Valls road.
Similarly, only one bus route of a school in the area has been affected by the works. The government’s local Education Department in Ibiza has already introduced, as of this week, the modification of the route, although the impact has been minimal as this school route had no stops in Puig d'en Valls.
Work on the new Ibiza-Formentera electricity inter-island connection was resumed last Friday, October 7, after being postponed in May due to the start of the summer tourist season. Up until that moment, civil works had been completed on practically the entire land section of the link, with the exception of the works in the area of the road junction between Carrer Torrent and the Puig d'en Valls road, the actual road itself and in the Can Bufí area, which is where work is currently underway.
The horizontal directional drilling for the sea-coast approach of the link and the installation of the associated offshore to onshore junction chambers were completed before the summer. These elements are essential for the underwater cable laying works and for the connection with the land section.
Work has already been completed on the island of Ibiza for the enlargement of the existing 132 kV Torrent substation, a key facility that will be the connection point for the new future link. These works consisted mainly of installing and equipping six new 132 kV switching substation bays, four with GIS technology (enclosed inside a building) and two with AIS technology (outdoors).
Additionally, four 9 MVAr (Megavolt-Ampere Reactive) 132 kV reactors have been installed and the internal wiring for connections between equipment has already been completed.
Based on the current schedule of works for the 2022-2023 period and the subsequent performance of the necessary pre-operational tests to ensure the operability and physical and electrical integrity of the new link, it is foreseen that the new submarine electricity link between Ibiza and Formentera will be commissioned by the end of 2023.
