Red Eléctrica enlarges the AVE power substation in Zaragoza after an investment of 770,000 euros

Red Eléctrica de España has commissioned the enlargement of the AVE (High Speed Train)-Zaragoza power substation, located in the rural district of La Cartuja Baja in the municipality of the capital of Aragon, whereby increasing the security, reliability and quality of the electricity supply in the vicinity of Zaragoza.

The enlargement works, which have been carried out in 2017 and have involved an investment of 770,000 euros, are part of the actions of undertaken by Red Eléctrica to improve the electricity system in this autonomous community.

The enlargement of the substation will facilitate the operation and maintenance of this facility and, at the same time, improve the power supply for the AVE and the evacuation of the energy generated by the wind farms near Zaragoza. This project is part of the key actions in Aragon included in the 2015-2020 transmission grid planning prepared by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, Tourism and the Digital Agenda, which aims to guarantee the security of the electricity supply.

As manager of the transmission grid, Red Eléctrica is responsible for grid development and maintenance, the management of the transmission of electricity between external power systems and the Spanish Peninsula and for guaranteeing third party access to the transmission grid under equal conditions.
