The Mayoress of Jerez de la Frontera, María José García-Pelayo, and the Director of Corporate Affairs and Institutional Relationships of Red Eléctrica, Ana Cuevas, have today signed a collaboration agreement for the renovation and strengthening of the structural integrity of the Church of Santiago, located in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, listed as a National Monument in 1931 and of High Cultural Interest.
The historical monument has undergone several renovations over the years until, in 2005, it was identified as being in serious risk of collapse forcing its closure to the public. Since then, there has been no intervention until 6 February this year, when the work to strengthen its structural integrity were resumed using a pioneering technique worldwide consisting of injecting stable mixtures of different strengthening components.
Under the newly signed agreement, over the coming years Red Eléctrica will collaborate on the structural strengthening and renovation works of the aforementioned temple. The City Council of Jerez undertakes to collaborate on the development and maintenance of the electricity transmission grid, of which Red Eléctrica is the operator.
Red Eléctrica de España is the company responsible for the transmission of high voltage electricity and the proper functioning of the electricity system. With more than 40,000 kilometres of high voltage electricity lines that form a meshed, reliable and secure grid and with quality service indices of the maximum level, we ensure at all times the balance between generation and electricity consumption in Spain. Planned investments in facilities in Andalusia for the period 2013-2015 amount to 147 million euros.
