Red Eléctrica renews its support for the Copa del Rey de Vela (King's Cup sailing competition)

Red Eléctrica backs, for the fourth consecutive edition, top competitive sailing in the most important race of all those held in the Mediterranean and will participate in the 32nd edition of the King's Cup (Copa del Rey). Ramón Granadino, REE's Director of System Operation in the Balearic Islands, and Javier Sanz, skipper of the "Red Eléctrica" boat, yesterday signed an agreement through which Red Eléctrica will sponsor the racing team of the competition, classified in the class X-35. The competition will take place in the waters of the bay of Palma de Majorca from July 27 to August 3.

Red Eléctrica, operator and sole transmission agent of the Spanish electricity system, present in the Balearic Islands since 2004, in this way strengthens its relationship with sport in the Balearic Islands and the quintessential sailing competition in Spain and Europe, widely recognised for its history and prestige.

In this edition, the team will face a challenge of the utmost importance, as the crew headed by Javier Sanz, skipper of "Red Eléctrica", president of the Royal Sailing Club (RCN) of Palma and the Organising Committee of the King's Cup, stood on the podium for the first time in their three year history in the 2012 edition, thanks to the third position obtained. This time, the goal is also particularly ambitious as the X-35 class competition of the 32nd King's Cup is also the European Championship of the class.

The "Red Eléctrica" project will, again this year, count on an experienced crew, closely linked to the RCN of Palma and to the Balearic Islands. In this edition, the challenge will focus again on an especially attractive and tough class as the competition is settled between boats with identical characteristics and in real-time, fighting for victory.
