This 400 kilovolts (kV) substation, which was put into service in December 2012, is essential for the evacuation of power from the wind farms and other renewable facilities in the Altiplano area of Murcia. In addition, it also has reserve bays to enable future access to the electricity grid.
The total investment in the electricity infrastructure has been 6.1 million euros and includes the connection of the substation with the 400 kV Pinilla-Rocamora axis.
Together with this project, in 2012 Red Eléctrica commissioned other electricity transmission facilities in the Region of Murcia such as the new Carril substation (400 kV), in Lorca, in addition to increasing the transformer voltage from 220 to 400 kV in the substation in El Palmar (Murcia capital). In total Red Eléctrica invested 16.3 million euros in this community during 2012.
The main objective of this investment is to support the electricity demand coverage, strengthen the transmission grid and enable the evacuation of renewable energy.

The delegate of the Government in Murcia, Joaquín Bascuñana, and the General Manager of Transmission for Red Eléctrica, Carlos Collantes, today inaugurated the Peñarrubia electricity substation in Jumilla, accompanied by the local mayor, Enrique Jiménez.
