Carmen Gómez de Barreda, appointed Lead Independent Director of Red Eléctrica

The Board of Directors of Red Eléctrica Corporación, at its meeting held today, has agreed to appoint Carmen Gómez de Barreda as Lead Independent Director of the Company. This figure was created by the Board in March and was approved by the Annual Shareholders' Meeting held on April 18, which proceeded to amend the company bylaws in this regard.

Following the recommendations of the Unified Code of Good Governance and the best international practices regarding corporate governance, this post was created with the aim of having a figure whose primary role is to organise the common positions of the independent directors and serve as a communicator or spokesperson of those common positions with respect to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, the Board itself and its Committees. The term of office is three years and the holder may be re-elected.

The new Lead Independent Director, Carmen Gómez de Barreda Tous de Monsalve, with extensive experience in the energy sector, was appointed Independent Director of Red Eléctrica Corporación at the Annual Shareholders' Meeting held on April 19, 2012. She has a degree in Economics and Business Science from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) and a IESE Masters in Business Administration from Universidad de Navarra.
