Red Eléctrica will compete in the 37th edition of the Copa del Rey de Vela in the ORC-2 class

Red Eléctrica de España will take part for the ninth consecutive year in the ‘Copa del Rey de Vela’ (King’s Cup sailing competition) through the sponsorship of the sailing yacht that bears its name and that will compete in the ORC-2 class for the first time in this sporting event. This 37th edition will be held from 28 July to 4 August in the waters of the Bay of Palma.

Eduardo Maynau, Red Electríca’s Regional Delegate in the Balearic Islands, and Javier Sanz, President of the Real Club Náutico de Palma (Royal Sailing Club), today signed an agreement whereby the sailing yacht Red Eléctrica de España will participate in the ORC-2 class, a class governed by real-time competition rules, which means that new challenges and demands will have to be taken on in the regatta following the excellent track record established by the team in the eight previous editions. The Red Eléctrica de España will again have a crew headed by Javier Sanz, which is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Copa del Rey.

As in previous editions, Red Eléctrica will sponsor the 'Enlace' Trophies, which are given to the top finishers in each category who, at the midpoint of the competition, are leading the competition standings in their class. The name of the trophies refers to the submarine electricity interconnection projects between islands carried out by the Company in the Balearic Islands; links that are essential for guaranteeing electricity supply in the Balearic Islands and for integrating renewable energies into the electricity system under safe conditions.

In addition to signing this specific sponsorship agreement for the competition, Red Eléctrica and the Real Club Náutico de Palma have signed a general collaboration agreement, which will open future lines of collaboration in terms of promoting sport, sporting values and social inclusion.

In this regard, Red Eléctrica’s social commitment to the Balearic Islands has consolidated itself through the Company’s ongoing support for one of the most relevant sailing competitions in Spain and Europe. Said engagement seeks to develop new shared initiatives with one of the most representative entities in water sports and which has earned the social acceptance of the citizens of the Islands.
