IES Marco Fabio Quintiliano of Calahorra will represent the Comunidad Autónoma de La Rioja in the national phase of the Entreredes Olympiad, following the regional final of the competition held today in Logroño. Sixteen students from this school overcame the teams from the other participating schools: Colegio Nuestra Señora de la Piedad in Nájera; IES Escultor Daniel and IES Comercio in Logroño; and Colegio Divino Maestro, also in the Riojan capital. 

The session, held at the headquarters of the Regional Ministry of Education and Employment of the Government of La Rioja, concludes an edition featuring the participation of 1,024 students from 6 schools located in the municipalities of Alfaro, Calahorra, Logroño, and Nájera. 

Thus, the teams from IES Marco Fabio Quintiliano emerged victorious in all four categories. In the 1st year of ESO category, the winning group comprised Deneb Navarrete, Rosa Alcalde, Marta Ramírez, and Alejandra Gil. In the 2nd year of ESO, the winning team consisted of Aarón Calvano, Andrés Gil, Manuel Eduardo Páramo, and Amanda Pena, while the 3rd year of ESO team was made up of Carmen Calvo, Rayan Djoudi, Irene González, and Laura Sáenz. Finally, the winners in the 4th year of ESO are Claudia Moliner, Saray Hernández, Kevin Adrián, and Adriana Ramírez. 

The award ceremony for the regional final was attended by the General Director of Educational Management of the Government of La Rioja, Luis Manuel Herce, and Redeia’s manager in the region, José Ignacio Lallana.

An educational game about the Spanish electricity system and the energy transition 

Entreredes is an educational project promoted by Red Eléctrica – the company responsible for transmitting electricity and operating the electricity system in Spain – with the aim of teaching young people how the Spanish electricity system and the energy transition work in an entertaining, dynamic, and engaging way. The initiative also seeks to spark young people's interest in energy, innovation, and technology, as well as their connection to the environment and social well-being, fostering vocations in STEAM disciplines and helping shape future energy-conscious citizens.

In the Entreredes Olympiad, the competitive part of the project, students play this video game in teams, allowing them to virtually travel across Spain through the lines and substations of the electricity transmission grid. To advance, players must correctly answer questions based on the syllabus taught throughout the school year (Geography and History; Physics and Chemistry/Biology; Mathematics; Language and Literature; and Leisure and Culture) and, in particular, on what they have learned about energy, the ecological transition, and the Spanish electricity system.

Schools in La Rioja have been participating in the Entreredes Olympiad since 2017. This year's winning Riojan students will face off against the winners from the other autonomous communities in the national final to be held on 27 May, where they will compete to be crowned the most knowledgeable about Spain's electricity system and their school subjects.
