A total of 16 students from Colegio San Cernin in Pamplona have won the regional final of the Entreredes Olympics. This victory has earned them the opportunity to represent the autonomous community in the national stage of the competition, which will take place on 27 May.

The event, held virtually on Tuesday, marked the end of an edition that saw the participation of 2,058 students from five schools in the region.

In the 1st year of secondary school category, the winning team from Colegio San Cernin was made up of students Boyang Lana Mendiluce, Xin Long Cai Bao, Martina Virto and Noa Solé, guided by their teachers Marta López and Laura Acosta. In the 2nd year category, the winning team consisted of Manuel Román, Hugo Erro, Nicolás Iragui and Odin Idoyaga, together with their teacher Marta López.

In the 3rd year category, the winners were Xin Yi Cai Bao, Hugo Mata, Miguel Otero and Pablo Zalaya, accompanied by their teacher Alba Martín. Finally, in the 4th year category, also from the same school, the winning team was formed by Paula Zarranz, Leyre Segura, Alba Serrano and Irene Soto, supported by their teacher Beatriz Mongelos.

A game to teach students about the Spanish electricity system and the energy transition 

Entreredes is an educational project launched by Red Eléctrica — the company responsible for electricity transmission and system operation in Spain — to teach younger generations how the Spanish electricity system and the energy transition work in an engaging, dynamic and interactive way. The initiative also seeks to spark young people’s interest in energy, innovation and technology, as well as their connection to the environment and social wellbeing, encouraging careers in STEAM fields and helping to shape energy-conscious citizens for the future.

In the Entreredes Olympics — the competitive side of the project —  students play this video game in teams, virtually travelling across Spain through the power lines and substations of the electricity transmission grid. To progress, players must correctly answer questions related to subjects covered throughout the school year (Geography and History; Physics and Chemistry/Biology; Mathematics; Spanish Language and Literature, and Leisure and Culture), with a special focus on energy, the ecological transition and the Spanish electricity system.

Educational centres in Navarra have been participating in the Entreredes Olympics since 2019. This year’s winners from Navarra will face off against students from other Spanish autonomous communities in the national final on 27 May, where they will compete to prove themselves the most knowledgeable about the Spanish electricity system and their school subjects.
