Colegio Escuelas Pías in Jaca (Huesca), the Zaragoza Sur Integrated Public School (CPI) in the Aragonese capital and IES Salvador Victoria in Monreal del Campo (Teruel) will represent the autonomous community of Aragón on 27 May in the national stage of the Entreredes Olympics, after winning the regional final of the competition held today in Zaragoza. A total of 48 students from these schools outperformed the teams from Colegio Santa Rosa FMDR in Huesca, IES Pedro Laín Entralgo in Híjar (Teruel) and CPI San Jorge in Zaragoza. 

The event was held at the Aragón Innovation Centre for Vocational Training in Zaragoza, which operates under the Department of Education, Culture and Sport of the Government of Aragón. It marked the end of an edition that saw the participation of 5,456 students from 33 schools across the region’s three provinces. 

In the 1st year of secondary school category, the winning team from Colegio Escuelas Pías in Jaca was made up of Hugo Vizcarra, Cloé Vivo, David Stolker and Rosa Loriente. In the 2nd year category, the winning team was from CPI Zaragoza Sur and included Darío Juan, Pablo Bondía, Diego Bondía and Álvaro Pérez. In the 3rd year category, also representing CPI Zaragoza Sur, the winners were Beatriz Acín, Alejandra Muñoz, Adriana Urrea and María Gómez. Finally, the winners in the 4th year category, representing IES Salvador Victoria in Monreal del Campo (Teruel), were Izan Fuertes, Pablo Arpa, Lucía Plumed and Álvaro Latorre. 

The award ceremony for the regional final of Entreredes was attended by Inmaculada Chabbar, advisor for Educational Programmes for the Government of Aragón, and José Ignacio Lallana, Redeia’s manager in the region.

A game to teach students about the Spanish electricity system and the energy transition 

Entreredes is an educational project launched by Red Eléctrica — the company responsible for electricity transmission and system operation in Spain — to teach younger generations how the Spanish electricity system and the energy transition work in an engaging, dynamic and interactive way. The initiative also seeks to spark young people’s interest in energy, innovation and technology, as well as their connection to the environment and social wellbeing, encouraging careers in STEAM fields and helping to shape energy-conscious citizens for the future.

In the Entreredes Olympics — the competitive side of the project —  students play this video game in teams, virtually travelling across Spain through the power lines and substations of the electricity transmission grid. To progress, players must correctly answer questions related to subjects covered throughout the school year (Geography and History; Physics and Chemistry/Biology; Mathematics; Spanish Language and Literature, and Leisure and Culture), with a special focus on energy, the ecological transition and the Spanish electricity system.

Educational centres in Aragón have been participating in the Entreredes Olympics since 2017. This year’s winners from Aragón will face off against students from other Spanish autonomous communities in the national final of the Entreredes Olympics on 27 May, where they will compete to prove themselves the most knowledgeable about the Spanish electricity system and their school subjects.
