Red Eléctrica begins the final construction phase of the Abanilla substation
The company is investing €6.8 million in the new infrastructure. This will enable the development and integration of renewable energy generation in the region
Red Eléctrica, Redeia's subsidiary responsible for electricity transmission and system operation in Spain, has begun the electromechanical assembly phase of the new 400 kV substation in Abanilla. This initiative marks the final stage in the construction of this key facility. This infrastructure is specifically designed to support the integration of renewable energies. With a budget of €6.8 million, it will contribute to the decarbonisation of electricity generation in the Region of Murcia.
This phase follows the completion of the civil works on schedule and in line with the roadmap for the substation to be commissioned by the end of 2025. The project is part of the current Transmission Grid Development Plan 2021–2026, approved by the Council of Ministers and binding for Red Eléctrica. The substation is located in the northwestern part of Abanilla and will be connected to the 400 kV Pinilla–Rocamora line.
