The Red Eléctrica Group heads the list of Spanish companies in the Refinitiv Diversity and Inclusion Index 2021

The Red Eléctrica Group is the most diverse and inclusive Spanish company and the second in the world in this respect in the electricity sector. This is reflected in the Refinitiv 2021 Diversity and Inclusion Index, which recognises the top 100 companies worldwide with the best performance indicators in terms of diversity and transparency. In the world ranking, Red Eléctrica is in 18th position.

To compile this index, Refinitiv collates and analyses more than 500 pieces of data from public information sources, such as corporate communications or press articles, regarding the environmental and social impact and governance (ESG - sustainability criteria) of 11,000 listed companies around the world. From this dataset, 24 metrics develop the scoring methodology in four specific areas: diversity, inclusion, people development and controversy. The index evaluates parity on boards and management teams, flexible working hours, the hiring of people with disabilities, the existence of training and internal promotion plans, as well as possible controversies in terms of salaries and working conditions.

"Our index identifies the Top 100 most diverse and inclusive companies in the world, and we are proud to recognise the Red Eléctrica Group for its bold commitments, industry-leading performance and positive social impact at a time when all the foregoing is crucial to rebuilding a resilient economy and society," explains David Harris, Global Head of Sustainable Finance at Refinitiv's parent company, London Stock Exchange Group, one of the world's largest providers of financial markets data and infrastructure.

"To be among the top 20 most diverse and inclusive companies in 2021 worldwide and to be the highest scoring Spanish company in the Refinitiv Diversity & Inclusion Index showcases that we are on the right track and encourages us to further bolster our commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusion. Diversity of talent is a business imperative. There is no longer any doubt that companies that believe in diversity create a more inclusive work environment that fosters collaboration among our workforce, stimulates innovation and improves our business performance. We will continue along this path and encourage other companies to follow suit," says Beatriz Corredor, Chairwoman of the Red Eléctrica Group.

The promotion of gender equality is a cross-cutting axis within the Red Eléctrica Group. With a board of directors comprised of 50% women, the Group has set itself the goal of achieving gender parity also in the management team by 2030 (currently women in management positions account for 32%). At the same time, our active vigilance on equal pay for men and women has enabled us to reduce the gross pay gap by one percentage point in the last year, from 10.94% to 9.84%.

The Company has a multi-year Comprehensive Diversity Plan (2018-2022) which includes courses of action for all aspects associated with diversity: Equality, Disability, Gender Violence and Hate Crimes, as well as Moral, Sexual and Gender-based Harassment, combating discrimination based on age, and + Diversity (LGTBI, Diverse Culture, Rural, other vulnerable groups).

The D&I Index helps financial professionals assess companies for long-term opportunities and risks in their investments, as well as to promote the adoption of Gender Lens Investing strategies.
