Business leaders from Sevilla and Dos Hermanas visit the new Guadaira substation
The facility, which is now operational, strengthens the electricity transmission grid in the metropolitan area of Sevilla and helps meet the supply needs associated with the area's industrial, logistical and technological growth.
The visit was attended by the president of the Sevilla Business Confederation, business representatives from Dos Hermanas and Megapark, and Red Eléctrica's manager for Andalucía.
Miguel Rus, president of the Sevilla Business Confederation, visited the new Guadaira 220 kV substation this morning together with Jorge Jiménez, Redeia's manager for Andalucía. Built by Red Eléctrica in the municipality of Dos Hermanas, the substation is now operational. The meeting was also attended by a number of business leaders from Sevilla and Dos Hermanas, together with Francisco Javier Aguilar, president of TIXE.
The visit reflects the interest of business leaders and investors in Megapark in gaining first-hand knowledge of the infrastructure's capacity to accommodate new electricity demand, supporting the development of business, logistics and technology projects and encouraging new investment in the area.
According to Jorge Jiménez, Red Eléctrica's manager for Andalucía, 'from the day the Transmission Grid Plan was approved, this substation was a priority for the company, driven by the certainty that it would become a hub for attracting new business investment to the area around the Port of Sevilla and the municipality of Dos Hermanas'.
The substation's commissioning is particularly significant given the ongoing growth of the Sevilla metropolitan area. More than 3,000 homes are currently being built in the Palmas Altas area, which is also home to facilities such as the City of Justice and a major shopping centre. These are joined by Megapark, a logistics and commercial hub set to boost economic activity in the area.
Miguel Rus, president of the Confederation of Business Owners of Sevilla, highlighted the importance of the necessary energy infrastructure to support economic and business growth in Sevilla and its metropolitan area: 'The availability of electricity capacity is becoming an increasingly decisive factor in enabling companies to develop new projects, expand their facilities and attract investment, particularly in industrial, logistical and technological activities.' He also highlighted the potential of Dos Hermanas and the surrounding region, 'an area with enormous development potential that is set to play a significant role in economic growth and in creating new opportunities for Sevilla'.
The new substation is connected to the 220 kV Aljarafe–Don Rodrigo line and features two new line bays, one coupling bay and two 220/66 kV transformer bays to supply the future 66 kV switchyard – currently in the earthworks and civil engineering phase – to be built by the distribution network operator.
The project, which involved an investment of €9.3 million, is included in the list of actions eligible for funding from the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds, as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
