Kaiku’s Women's Rowing Sports Club in Sestao is receiving support from Red Eléctrica during the 2025 season, which is about to begin. On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the company is sponsoring the women's league of CDR Kaiku-Red Eléctrica, thus boosting its commitment to sustainability and equal opportunities in the high-level sports area.

The alliance has been forged to further raise the profile of women’s rowing and encourage girls to take up this activity. Furthermore, it will enable the ETE women's league to have a senior Kaiku-Red Eléctrica trainera (traditional boat used in Spanish coastal regions, particularly the Basque Region), and additional support for the work being carried out by the Club to make progress in terms of equality and diversity.

'Red Eléctrica is strongly committed to equal opportunities and diversity, therefore our support for a women’s rowing club like CDR Kaiku is part of this commitment and is a clear statement of our intention to ensure that there are no gender limits in spot, or in any other area,' explained Antonio González Urquijo, Red Eléctrica’s delegate in the Basque Region.

According to Amador Antón, president of the Kaiku Rowing Sports Club, 'The support we have received from Red Eléctrica not only motivates our rowers but also contributes to building a more equitable future full of opportunities, so I would like to thank you most sincerely on behalf of the club.'

About CDR Kaiku

The Kaiku Rowing Sports Club was formed in 1923 on the banks of the River Galindo, in Sestao. Throughout its history, this hundred-year-old club has been among the most highly awarded in in the Cantabrian Sea: its golden age was in the 1970s and early 1980s, during which it garnered numerous sporting successes. It was the first club to win the 'La Caixa' crown for three consecutive years (2011, 2012 and 2013) in the Association of Traineras Clubs League (now Eusko Label).

Nowadays, it includes more than 100 athletes competing in all categories and disciplines of rowing, from school sport to federation levels, both in fixed seat boats (batel, trainerilla, and trainera) and in moving seat boats (Olympic rowing) in provincial, regional, and national competitions, across all disciplines. Kaiku has been competing with its women's trainera in the ETE league since the 2018 season.
