A €2 million investment
Red Eléctrica will install a new shunt reactor in the Soto de Ribera substation

Red Eléctrica de España has invested €2 million in the installation of a new shunt reactor in the 400/220 kilovolt (kV) Soto de Ribera substation in order to securely maintain the voltage stability of the transmission grid within the appropriate parameters.

This reactor arrived at the Port of El Musel in Gijón from Turkey and its assembly in the substation’s 400 kV switchyard will commence next Monday, 19 March.

This new voltage control equipment/unit, with a nominal reactive power rating of 150 megavolt-amperes and whose dimensions are 7.6 x 3.45 x 4.1 meters (length x width x height) and weighs 103 tonnes, has been transported from the Port of El Musel to the substation, located in the municipality of Ribera de Arriba, using a special heavy haulage 31.6 meter-long lorry,

The installation of this new reactor in the 400/220 kV Soto de Ribera substation is one of the actions included in the 2015-2020 Electricity Infrastructure Planning, approved by the central Government.
