Red Eléctrica, recognised for its commitment to climate change
  • The Company has been selected by the Carbon Disclosure Project for its environmental policy and actions in the fight against climate change

Red Eléctrica de España has received recognition for its commitment to climate change after being selected in the annual assessment carried out by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), showcasing the Company’s environmental policy and the specific actions undertaken in this area. Through an annual questionnaire of the world's largest listed companies, the CDP collects information on identified risks and opportunities related to climate change, emission reduction plans and the transparency of corporate actions targeted at mitigating climate change.

Companies around the world annually report information to the CDP so that they can be evaluated independently. Red Eléctrica has been ranked among the top 5% of the companies with the highest score in recognition of its work over the last year in reducing emissions, mitigating climate change, managing risks associated to the latter and for contributing to the development of a low-carbon economy.

Red Eléctrica maintains a strong commitment in the fight against climate change, which is reflected in its environmental policy and its recently updated Climate Change Action Plan (2015-2020-2030), which sets out the goals and targets to be achieved in this field and the measures established to achieve them, aware of the essential role that companies play in advancing towards the targets set in the Paris Agreement.

CDP is an international non-profit organisation that aims to provide a global disclosure system regarding vital environmental information that helps investors, businesses and governments mitigate risks in the use of energy and natural resources, as well as identify opportunities for a more responsible approach to the environment.

The distinction awarded to Red Eléctrica for its responsibility in the fight against climate change is added to the recognition as the best company in the world in sustainability in the Electric Utilities sector recently awarded to the Company by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). Its commitment to sustainability aims to contribute to economic, social and environmental development, as well as the promotion of progress, culture and social wellbeing in those areas where the Company’s facilities are located.
