Electricity interruptibility service for the 2017 period
Allocation of the interruptibility service to large electricity consumers commences

The allocation of the interruptibility service through the competitive allocation mechanism for the 2017 electricity period has begun today through the holding of the auction organised by the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and the Digital Agenda, and organised by Red Eléctrica at the Trade Fair Institution of Madrid (IFEMA).

As established in the Resolution of the Secretary of State for Energy, whereby the requirement for interruptible power to be auctioned for the 2017 electricity period is approved, 340 blocks of 5 MW (1,700 MW) and 10 blocks of 90 MW (900 MW) are to be auctioned off. In total, 2,600 MW of interruptible power, will be the allocated through this auction.

Over the next few days, about 250 agents representing around 150 companies from the large industry sector that have intensive electrical energy consumption will bid for the interruptible products for the 2017 period.

The final results of the auction will be communicated 24 hours after the closing of the last auction through the eSios website of Red Eléctrica, the system operator, once they have been validated by the National Markets and Competition Commission.
