Electricity consumption of large companies grew 3% in October

The electricity consumption of large and medium-sized companies grew 3% in October compared with the same month the previous year, according to data from the Red Eléctrica Index (IRE). Broken down by sector, industrial consumption increased 2.2% and consumption in the services sector rose by 3.3%. The effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in when calculating this data.

According to the IRE, in the last twelve months, the electricity consumption of these companies, once the effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in, has increased by 2% over the same period last year. By sector, industry consumption rose by 2.9% and the services sector fell by 1.1%.

Compared to October 2014, of the five activities with the highest electricity demand the metallurgy industry fell by 1.8%, the chemical industry dropped by 0.5%, the manufacturing industry for other non-metallic mineral products increased by 6.8%, the food industry grew 1.7 % and the paper industry increased 0.9%.

Similarly, activities that contributed most to the growth in consumption of large companies have been: the agriculture, livestock, hunting and associated services with a growth of 0.5%, the collection, purification and distribution of water (0.5%), the manufacturing industry for other non-metallic mineral products (0.4%), the wholesale trade and commission-based trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles (0.3%) and the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (0.3%).
