The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of July, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, grew 5.4% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand for the month was 23,477 GWh, a value 11.2% up on the figure for July 2014.
This increase in gross electricity demand is due mainly to a rise in temperatures. Since March 2004, there had not been a variation of such high growth registered over the same month of the previous year.
In the first seven months of the year, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, consumption was 1.2% up on that of last year. The gross demand in this period was 146,922 GWh, 3.2% more than in the same period of 2014.
Production coming from wind power during this month reached 3,083 GWh, 14.1% down on the same period last year, and represented 12.9% of the total production.
In the month of July, generation coming from renewable energy sources reached 30.7% of production.
49.1% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
