For sixth consecutive year and in the X-35 class
Red Eléctrica will take part in the 34th edition of the Copa del Rey sailing competition

Red Eléctrica de España will take part, for the sixth consecutive year, in the 34th edition of the Copa del Rey sailing competition by sponsoring the X-35 class sailing yacht, that bears its name, as well as the sailing crew that will compete in this sporting event as per the agreement signed today by Eduardo Maynau, the regional delegate for Red Eléctrica in the Balearic Islands and Javier Sanz, skipper and ship-owner of the ‘Red Eléctrica de España’ sailing yacht.

Through this agreement, Red Eléctrica renews its support for the world of high competition sailing and the Copa del Rey, which will be held from 1 to 8 August in waters of the Bay of Palma.

The X-35 single hull sailing yacht ‘Red Eléctrica de España’ will again have a crew that will be skippered by Javier Sanz, President of the Royal Sailing Club of Palma and President of the Organising Committee of the Copa del Rey, who is closely linked to said sailing club and the Balearic Islands, and who has a solid sporting career in the world of sailing. In this edition, the crew will additionally have the experience of having participated in the five preceding ‘Copa del Rey’ competitions. It is worth noting that the crew of the ‘Red Eléctrica de España’ took third place in the 2014 edition.

The 34th edition of the Copa del Rey sailing competition coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Red Electrica de España, founded in 1985, and the International Year of Light, promoted by the United Nations. Throughout the competition, the sailing yacht ‘Red Eléctrica de España’ will help disseminate information regarding the celebration of both these events.

Red Eléctrica, as in the 2014 edition, will also sponsor the ‘Enlace’ Trophies, whose name (‘Link’ in English) refers to the inter-island submarine electricity interconnection projects that are being carried out by the Company in the Balearic archipelago. Said trophies will be awarded to the crews of each class who, at the midpoint of the competition, are leading the standings.

Red Electrica de España, system operator and transmission agent of the Spanish electricity system, maintains its social commitment to the Balearic Islands and strengthens its sporting relationships with the Balearic Islands, through its participation in one of the ultimate sailing competitions in Spain and Europe, and one of the events with greatest impact in the Islands.
