Electricity consumption of large companies grew 2.4% in April

The electricity consumption of large and medium-sized companies grew 2.4% in April compared with the same month the previous year, according to data from the Red Eléctrica Index (IRE). Broken down by sector, industrial consumption increased 3.1% and consumption in the services sector fell by 1.2%. The effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in when calculating this data.

According to the IRE, in the last twelve months, the electricity consumption of these companies, once the effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in, has increased by 2.6% over the same period last year. By sector, industry consumption rose by 3.9% and the services sector fell by 1.4%.

Compared to April 2014, the five activities with the highest electricity consumption were the metallurgy industry which grew 2.6%, the chemical industry which fell 1.2%, the manufacturing industry for other non-metallic mineral products increased by 4.8%, the food industry fell 0.6% and the paper industry dropped 2.6%.

Similarly, activities that contributed most to the growth in consumption of large companies have been: the metallurgy industry with an increase of 2.6%, the manufacturing industry for other non-metallic mineral products (4.8%), the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products (4.9%), the collection, treatment and distribution of water (7.6%) and the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (6.7%)
