The electricity consumption of large and medium-sized companies in 2013 fell by 0.5% compared with the previous year, according to data from the Red Eléctrica Index (IRE). Broken down by sector, industrial consumption grew by 1.3%, and the services sector fell 3.8%. The effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in when calculating this data.

According to the IRE, in December 2013, electricity consumption of these companies, after factoring in seasonal and working patterns, increased by 2.7% compared with the same month last year. By sector, industry consumption rose 4.1% and the services sector fell by 0.2%.

The IRE is an indicator which aims to provide information regarding the evolution of the electricity consumption of all large and medium-sized companies, defined as those with a contracted capacity greater than 450 kilowatts. The power measurements are collated from more than 21,500 points of approximately 13,200 companies.

The index of global consumption of these companies is published monthly on the corporate website of Red Eléctrica, www.ree.es, and presents both monthly data, which compares power measurement data for each month with the same period last year, as well as accumulated data, using the last 365 days as a comparison period.

The series of data can be consulted as from 1 January 2010, whereas the graphs only show the data of the last thirteen months.

Red Eléctrica receives this data from distributors, but the data is not definitive until ten months have elapsed since its publication. During this period, the data is provisional, and thus, may vary.
