Informative meeting in Valencia
Red Eléctrica de España will invest 428 million euros in the Autonomous Community of Valencia until 2018
  • Included amongst the most important projects for the forthcoming years are the Mezquita-Morella 400kV axis; the Morella-La Plana 400kV axis; the Ayora-Cofrentes 400kV axis; the Torremendo-San Miguel de Salinas 220kV line and two 220kV substations currently under construction in the city of Valencia: Parque Central and Aqua.

Red Eléctrica de España has forecast investments totalling 428.2 million euros in the Autonomous Community of Valencia until 2018, although this figure may vary depending on the transmission grid planning process currently underway, being carried out by the Ministry of Industry in collaboration with the Autonomous Communities. This figure is in addition to the 410 million euros invested by the Company between 2009 and 2013.

With this investment, REE strengthens its commitment towards the security and quality of supply in the region of Valencia. In addition, the Company, as part of its commitment towards sustainable development, has signed several agreements with the Government of Valencia to carry out projects for the protection of the environment and biodiversity and for the prevention of forest fires.

This was confirmed today by Antonio Prada, Corporate Director of Corporate Responsibility and Communication in a briefing with the Media that was held today at the regional head office of Red Eléctrica de España in Valencia and at which Maite Vela, regional delegate, revealed the Company’s major investment projects in the Autonomous Community of Valencia for the coming years.

Most relevant projects

Amongst the most important projects that Red Eléctrica de España is carrying out for the coming years are:

  • Mezquita-Morella 400kV axis and the Morella-La Plana 400kV axis for transmission grid meshing in the province of Castellon.
  • New substations to support the distribution network in the province of Castellon (El Serrallo in Castellon and Assegador in Villarreal).
  • Godelleta 400/220 kV substation, which will improve the circulation of power flows to suburban belt of Valencia.
  • Campanario-Ayora-Cofrentes 400kV axis necessary for transmission grid meshing and the evacuation of renewable energy.
  • Eliana-Beniferri 200kV axis, comprising of the 220 kV underground line and the remodeling of the La Eliana substation.
  • Two new 220 kV substations under construction in the city of Valencia to support demand: Parque Central and Aqua.
  • 220kV axis between the local regions of La Ribera and La Safor, which includes three new 220 kV substations; Cárcer Valley (Villanueva de Castellón), Valldigna (Tavernes de Valldigna) and Gandia.
  • Castalla 220kV Substation to support the distribution network in the area.
  • Torremendo-San Miguel de Salinas 220kV line, which will improve the reliability of supply in the southeastern province of Alicante.
  • Torrevieja substation and the San Miguel de Salinas-Torrevieja 220kV line, that will cover the growth in demand of the municipality of Torrevieja and the areas that depend on it.

Collaboration agreements

Red Eléctrica de España, within its policy regarding Corporate Social Responsibility and the promotion of sustainability and environmental protection in the territories in which it operates, maintains several collaboration agreements with the Autonomous Community of Valencia.

Amongst them are the current agreements with the Consejería de Infraestructuras, Territorio y Medio Ambiente (Regional Ministry of Infrastructure, Planning and Environment) for the conservation of biodiversity, which has enabled reforestation in the Sierra Calderona Natural Park via the ‘Red Eléctrica Forest’ initiative, the installation of public signage in natural parks (Hoces del Cabriel, Calderona and Turia) and the collaboration to facilitate the reintroduction of the Lesser Kestrel, amongst other actions.

Additionally, an agreement with the Consejería de Gobernación y Justicia (Regional Ministry of Interior and Justice) is also maintained regarding the prevention of forest fires, of note is the recent publication of an educational unit for primary school students in the Autonomous Community of Valencia.
