REE and RTE allocate Yearly Capacity at the Spanish-French Interconnection for 2013

Red Eléctrica de España (REE) and Réseau de Transport d'Électricité (RTE), the transmission system operators (TSO) of the Spanish and French electrical systems, respectively, celebrated on 13th December 2012 the Capacity Auction in the Spanish – French Interconnection for the year 2013. In these auctions the entitled participants can obtain, through their accepted bids, the right of use of available cross-border capacity for each hour of the year.

In the direction France-Spain were offered and allocated 300 MW with a resulting price of 7.81 €/MW, having obtained cross-border capacity rights 7 of total of 10 participants. In the Spain-France direction were offered and allocated 300 MW, resulting a price of 2.88 €/MW and having obtained cross-border capacity rights 9 of total of 12 participants.

These yearly auctions for 2013, carried out in accordance with the European Regulation for cross-border trade, have generated incomes of Eur27 million. Half of these incomes, belonging to the Spanish system, are used to reduce the regulated costs of the Spanish electrical system.
