Red Eléctrica presents its sustainability policy to the socially responsible investment rating agencies

On Sustainability Day, 24 and 25 September, experts from various corporate social responsibility rating agencies visited the head offices of Red Eléctrica de España to learn about the company's approach regarding social responsibility and actions concerning the environment, advanced human resources management, social impact, corporate governance and ethics.

Red Eléctrica, a leading company in socially responsible management and winner of an excellence award from the European Foundation of Quality Management (EFQM) in 2011 in the category of "Taking Responsibility for a Sustainable Future", showed the representatives of the rating agencies specialised in sustainability, its policies on energy efficiency, environmental protection, people management, good corporate governance actions, ethical and responsible management of providers and investments, and training and educational programmes for a good use of energy, amongst others.

During their visit, the attendees were able to see the commitment and effort that Red Eléctrica makes regarding the occupational health and safety of workers in the San Sebastián de los Reyes substation (Madrid), as well as actions carried out on the facilities of the Company in order to minimise the environmental footprint.

Participants visited the National Electricity Control Centre (Cecoel), in which the operation of the electricity system is carried out, and the Control Centre of Renewable Energies (Cecre), the only centre in the world that manages the integration of energy from renewable sources into the electricity system.

Red Eléctrica is part of Dow Jones Index (Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes DJSI), with 79 points awarded in the overall classification of 2012, three points higher than that achieved in the previous year and nearly 20 points above the industry average.
