Gross demand rose 0.2% in June
Demand for electrical energy grew 3.7%

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula reached 20,415 GWh in the month of June, representing an increase of 3.7% with respect to the same month in 2009, and a growth of 0.2% in gross demand.

In the first six months of the year electricity consumption was 129,034 GWh, 3.7% higher than in the same period last year, and 4.2% in gross terms.

As of this month, we shall be taking as a reference the demand figures once the effects of seasonal and working patterns have been factored in. This shall be done so as to provide data which better reflects actual consumption figures.

During the month of June, generation obtained from renewable sources reached 34.5% of the total production. Additionally, 55% of the electricity generated during the month was produced by technologies which do not produce CO2 emissions.

Figures for the first six months
In the first six months of the year, production from renewable energy sources accounted for 40% of the total production, compared to 28.8% in 2009.

In this six month period of 2010, wind power energy was 16.4% and hydroelectric was 21.2%, whilst during the same period last year; wind power production was 13.4% and hydroelectric 13%.
