Demand for electrical energy falls 2.5% in January

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of January dropped, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, 2.5% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand was 23,015 GWh, 2.6% lower than in January 2011.

In January, generation obtained from renewable energy sources represented 26.5% of the total production, 14 percentage points less than in January 2011.

During this month the technology which made the largest contribution to the total production was that obtained from coal thermal power stations, representing 21.8% of the total generation. Nonetheless, 46.5% of the electricity production during the month of January was obtained from technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
