Demand for electrical energy falls 2.4% in July

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of July, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, fell 2.4% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand was 21,646 GWh, 1.2% lower than that registered in July 2011.

In the first seven months of the year, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, consumption was 1.7% below that registered last year. Gross electricity demand in this period was 149,664 GWh, 0.3% less than in the same period in 2011.

In July, wind power production reached 2,987 GWh, a decrease of 7.3% compared with the same period last year, and represented 13% of the total production. This month the generation originating from renewable energy sources represented 29.4% of the total production, a figure higher than that recorded in July 2011, which was 28.1%.

Additionally, 50.2% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
