Demand for electrical energy falls 1.8% in June

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of June, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, fell 1.8% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand was 20,655 GWh, 0.2% higher than that registered in June 2011.

In the first six months of the year, and after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, consumption was 1.7% below that registered last year. Gross electricity demand in this period was 127,473 GWh, 0.3% less than the same period 2011.

In June, wind power production reached 3,044 GWh, an increase of 4% compared with the same period last year, and represented 16% of the total production. This month the generation originating from renewable energy sources represented 34% of the total production, a figure higher than that recorded in June 2011, which was 29.8%.

48.2% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
