All infrastructure comprising the electricity interconnection between the peninsula and Ceuta is now energised. As a result, in the event of an incident at Ceuta's generation facilities, the interconnection can instantly cover the Autonomous City's demand. Both systems are synchronised, providing security of supply and the necessary support in the event of a contingency in the Ceuta system.

In this context, the infrastructure has already proven its ability to safeguard the Autonomous City's supply. Recently, the connection supported the Ceuta system by preventing supply interruptions, which serves as a practical confirmation of its intended function. The interconnection infrastructure is now complete and in service. 

• The transmission grid infrastructure, managed by Red Eléctrica, was completed in December 2025. Following the necessary testing, the first circuit was energised on 13 March 2026.  
• The distribution facilities, required to connect to the transmission substation, were first energised on 30 June 2026, and synchronisation tests were carried out on 22 July.
• Once the distribution company's works had concluded and all tests were completed, the final connection was made on 10 August. The interconnection project now delivers the anticipated benefits, particularly the guaranteed security of supply afforded by the support of the entire Peninsular and European systems.

Finally, the commercial scheduling of electricity exchange between the peninsular system and the Ceuta system will commence on 1 November, as established by Royal Decree 14112 158, published on 30 June 2026.
