Red Eléctrica, the Redeia subsidiary responsible for the transmission and operation of the electricity system in Spain, has begun construction work on the double-circuit 220 kV Anchuelo–Complutum line. This project aims to strengthen the security of the electricity supply, drive the ecological transition, and facilitate meeting new residential and business demand in the Henares Corridor area within the Comunidad de Madrid.

Construction on the line has started with civil engineering works on seven transmission towers, an initial phase that will allow progress on the development of this strategic infrastructure, which is key to reinforcing the transmission grid in the Alcalá de Henares area.

The new line will have a total length of 8.6 kilometres and will run through the municipalities of Anchuelo, Los Santos de la Humosa, and Alcalá de Henares. The project includes both overhead and underground sections and will connect the new Anchuelo substation with the new Complutum substation, both of which are currently under construction.

The new connection will improve the quality and security of the electricity supply while supporting the growth of economic and business activity in the surrounding area. Likewise, both the Anchuelo and Complutum substations include connection bays for generation to facilitate the integration of renewable energy in the region.

With this project, Red Eléctrica continues to advance the development of the grid in the Comunidad de Madrid, where it is driving actions aimed at fostering electrification and responding to new energy needs linked to the region’s growth. 

This investment effort adds to other strategic projects currently being developed by the company, as well as assets already in service, representing a total investment to date of €205 million under the current electricity planning. 

These include the new Nuevo Meco 220 kV, Cisneros 220 kV, Fuente de Hito 220 kV, and Torrejón de Velasco 400 kV substations, as well as the modification of the double-circuit 400 kV Moraleja–Villaviciosa and Morata–Villaviciosa power lines. This modification is designed to increase transmission capacity and adapt the route to urban developments, alongside the already completed San Fernando 400/220 kV substation and the substation expansions commissioned in the region.
