Red Eléctrica and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa strengthen joint wildfire control efforts through 2030
The two entities have been working together on forest fire prevention for over 13 years and are now renewing their commitment to the environment for another four years.
The Department of Green Regional Balance of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and Red Eléctrica have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at preventing and extinguishing wildfires near electricity facilities owned by the company.
This collaboration, which has been in place for more than 13 years, is being renewed for an additional four-year term to continue implementing best practices in wildfire prevention.
Under this agreement until 2030, both parties commit to developing projects, campaigns, and initiatives in development, innovation, and awareness-raising related to the prevention and control of forest fires. Among other measures, the agreement includes training for Forest Rangers and technical staff of the Provincial Council on electrical lines and forest fires occurring near power lines.
Over 13 years of cooperation
Red Eléctrica and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa have been working closely together on wildfire control for more than 13 years. During this time, and thanks to this collaboration, the Gipuzkoa fire department has been provided with new equipment and resources, such as forestry protective gear, hydraulic tools, and other specialised firefighting equipment.
Redeia's commitment to the region. A shared value strategy
By signing this agreement, Red Eléctrica reinforces its commitment to sustainability through the creation of shared value for all its stakeholders in the responsible development of its activities. This aligns with its 2030 Sustainability Commitment and the Corporate Responsibility Policy of its parent company, Redeia.
In the field of wildfires, Red Eléctrica’s strategy is based on awareness, prevention, training, and cooperation with public administrations. The goal is twofold: preventing fires from starting and, should one occur, ensuring the best possible expertise for rapid response.
