Red Eléctrica, Redeia’s subsidiary responsible for the transmission and operation of the Spanish electricity system, has completed the uprading of the 400 kV Requena-Godelleta line. By increasing the power transmission capacity of the line, this project bolsters the electricity supply across the whole of the Valencia region.

The project involved extending several existing towers by up to 6 metres. This approach ensures that the original route remains unchanged and avoids the need to install any additional infrastructure. In this way, legally-required safety clearances from other infrastructure (such as power lines, railways and roads) are maintained, maximising the potential of the existing infrastructure. 

The line is a key asset within the region's transmission grid, spanning the municipalities of Godelleta, Turís, Alborache, Buñol, Siete Aguas, and Requena. Therefore, its optimisation bolsters the reliability and quality of supply for the entire province. The project, with a total budget of €690,000, also included the installation of bird flight diverters along various sections of the route to improve the visibility of the line for birdlife.

The project is part of the current Planning approved by the Council of Ministers and is also included in the list of initiatives eligible for funding by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
