Red Eléctrica strengthens electricity supply in Camp de Morvedre with the expansion of the Sagunto GIS 220 kV substation
The initiative involved an investment of more than €2.3 million and is included in the list of projects financed by the European Union under NextGenerationEU – Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Red Eléctrica, Redeia’s subsidiary responsible for electricity transmission and system operation in Spain, has completed the expansion works at the Sagunto GIS 220 kV substation. This upgrade strengthens the electricity supply in the Camp de Morvedre area by supporting the local distribution network. With an investment of more than €2.3 million, the reconfiguration of the substation has made it possible to optimise the operation of the electricity system, increasing the safety and efficiency of the grid.
Specifically, the expansion involved a topological modification to the substation, changing the interconnection of the transmission grid components at this facility, located in the Racó de l’Horta business area of Sagunto. The entire expansion was carried out within the existing premises of the Sagunto GIS 220 kV substation, with no need for additional land and therefore no impact on the surrounding environment.
The project forms part of the 2021–2026 Electricity Transmission Grid Planning (MAPs), approved by the Council of Ministers. This action is included in the list of projects financed by the European Union under NextGenerationEU – Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
