Red Eléctrica has begun construction of the new La Sagra 400/220 kV sub-station in Numancia de la Sagra (Toledo). With this milestone, the company is advancing one of the strategic projects included in the current planning framework, aimed at improving security and quality of supply through reinforcement of the transmission grid. This initiative will also drive the energy transition by enabling greater integration of renewable energy, thanks to improved power flows.

The development of the new La Sagra sub-station is considered strategic, as it will act as a key node in the transmission grid, meshing the 400 kV Almaraz–Morata axis with the 220 kV Aceca–Añover and Pinto Ayuden–Los Pradillos lines. This will provide the national electricity system with greater flexibility and resilience, ensuring the system is better equipped for the challenges of the ecological transition.

This infrastructure entails an investment of approximately €30 million, while the works are expected to take around one year to complete. The initiative is also included in the list of projects financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. 

Environmental commitment and local development

In addition to the financial investment, the company is committed to carrying out transmission grid works with the utmost respect for the natural environment, ensuring responsible deployment aligned with the environmental and social principles that guide its operations. Likewise, and in line with Redeia’s Comprehensive Impact Strategy, the company has reached a collaboration agreement with the Numancia de la Sagra Town Council to develop a strategic project for the municipality. Specifically, this will involve the installation of photovoltaic self-consumption systems at various public buildings and infrastructures, including the Health Centre/Library, the Town Hall, the ‘Garabatos’ childcare centre (CAI), the Youth Centre and the local pumping stations (Cañadillas, Pantoja and Las Mayores).

This project will enable Numancia de la Sagra to move toward a more efficient energy model, reduce its carbon footprint and lower operating costs, generating a direct and lasting benefit for its residents.
