For 40 years, we've been driving our country's economic and social progress. Four decades shaping Spain.
Red Eléctrica commissions the Saguntum 220 kV sub-station, key to the industrial development of the Valencian Community
Just 20 months after its inclusion in the transmission grid Planning, the sub-station is already energised.
It is the first of a set of grid infrastructures intended to support industrialisation in Sagunto, involving an investment of €62 million in the municipality.
This action is included in the list of projects financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Red Eléctrica, the subsidiary of Redeia that is responsible for the transmission and operation of the electricity system in Spain, has completed and commissioned the new Saguntum 220 kV sub-station in Sagunto (Valencia). This facility is crucial for the electricity supply of the new industrial hub being developed in the municipality, and a lever for economic revitalisation and job creation in the province of Valencia and the Valencian Community as a whole.
The execution of this strategic project by the Red Eléctrica teams has been a challenge met in record time. The new sub-station was included in the modifications to the current electricity Planning, approved in April of last year by the Council of Ministers. Immediately afterwards, Red Eléctrica initiated the project permitting process, having brought forward all the design engineering and environmental studies, reaffirming its commitment to accelerating strategic investments for the Valencian Community.
The works, which have been completed with the utmost speed, began with earthmoving in December 2024. The result is that the sub-station is energised, available now for the connection of the new planned industrial facilities, just 20 months after its inclusion in the aforementioned Planning.
This action is included in the list of projects financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. With a total investment of nearly €62 million, the set of new transmission grid infrastructures in Sagunto—which will include another 400 kV switchyard annexed to the one now being commissioned—will ensure the viability of the significant investments by the automotive industry announced in Sagunto, linked to the transformation of mobility.
