Beatriz Corredor, Borja Sánchez, and Adriana Lastra visit the dismantling works of the Lada–Velilla line in Asturias

The dismantling of the line is a long-standing request from the region, while the removal and environmental restoration works are expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2026, subject to weather conditions, terrain, and other environmental milestones.

Beatriz Corredor, chairwoman of Redeia, Red Eléctrica's parent company, together with Borja Sánchez García, the regional minister for Science, Industry, and Employment of the Government of Asturias, and Adriana Lastra, the Government delegate in the region, visited the area where work is underway to dismantle the overhead electricity transmission line connecting Lada (Asturias) with Velilla del Río Carrión (Palencia).

During the visit, held in the municipality of Laviana, the chairwoman of Redeia outlined the progress made since February this year, when dismantling of the line began after all authorisations had been obtained. Throughout this process, the regional Government and Red Eléctrica have maintained continuous communication with the affected municipalities to identify needs and determine the best access routes to the areas where the line’s towers and structures are located.

According to Beatriz Corredor, ‘This dismantling is a decision grounded in responsibility and commitment to Asturias. It responds to a long-standing request from the regional Government and the affected municipalities.’ It also prepares Asturias for the future because ‘it aligns the region with the future grid set out in the 2025–2030 Planning, which will strengthen the capacity of the Asturian electricity grid to ensure decarbonisation and the development of the region’s productive sector.’

For his part, the regional minister for Science, Industry, and Employment of the Government of the Principality of Asturias. ‘xxxx’.

For Adriana Lastra, the Government delegate in Asturias, ‘xxxx’.

Red Eléctrica is investing around €7 million to dismantle this infrastructure, which crosses six Asturian municipalities: Langreo, Mieres del Camino, San Martín del Rey Aurelio, Laviana, Sobrescobio, and Caso.

In addition to the usual complexity of this type of project, some sections run through high-mountain terrain, making it a particularly demanding undertaking. The dismantling and environmental restoration works in Asturias are expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2026, subject to weather conditions, terrain, and other environmental milestones.

Red Eléctrica’s commitment to the region

The Lada-Velilla 400 kV high-voltage line was authorised and declared to be of public utility in 1986. However, it never entered into operation due to circumstances beyond the control of Red Eléctrica. Its dismantling responds to a longstanding request from the Government of Asturias and is the result of close collaboration between the regional government and the company.

This kind of initiative reflects Red Eléctrica’s commitment to the region. The involvement of local municipalities and the support of the regional government throughout the project will help ensure its successful completion.
