For 40 years, we've been driving our country's economic and social progress. Four decades shaping Spain.
Red Eléctrica is making good progress on the works for the substation of El Condado, a vital point for the high-speed railway
The new substation, which will be completed in 2025, will provide electricity for the high-speed railway line between Seville and Huelva.
Manuel Larrasa, Secretary General of Energy for the Regional Government of Andalusia, Lucía Nuñez the regional delegate for Huelva of the Department of Industry, Energy and Mines, and Rocío Moreno, mayoress of La Palma del Condado, visited the site of the works for the new substation that Red Eléctrica is building in La Palma del Condado this morning, accompanied by Jorge Jiménez, Red Eléctrica’s delegate in Andalusia. The facility will provide electricity for the high-speed railway between Seville and Huelva.
In the course of the visit, they saw that the works are progressing according to schedule and that the permit for commissioning the facility will be submitted at the end of the year. Besides the electricity substation, the work includes a double circuit electricity line that will connect the new facility with the high-voltage grid through the Colón-Santiponce main line.
Red Eléctrica is investing 7.5 million euros in this project (the substation and the electricity line), which is intended to integrate Huelva and its province into the Iberian peninsula’s high-speed railway network and respond to a long-standing demand from the region’s social and business sectors and the wider population as a whole. This facility is expected to convert Huelva into a important logistical centre between the south of Spain, Portugal and the rest of the peninsula.
Red Eléctrica plans to carry out eighteen projects in Huelva in the period 2021-2026. The most important of these, along with the El Condado substation, is the Costa de la Luz - Puebla de Guzmán 220 kV line and the expansion of both substations, a project that is seen as strategic for the province as it would enable new mining and industrial projects in the area of the Pyrite Belt and strengthen the supply for the west coast.
All these actions are included in the current electrical planning approved by the Government and are binding for Red Eléctrica.
