Red Eléctrica, among the most sustainable companies in the world, according to the Dow Jones index
  • The Company renews its presence in the DJSI World Index as a result of having obtained a total of 89 points, 3 more than in 2019, and once again is included the DJSI Europe Index.
  • The World Index selects 10% of the most sustainable listed companies in the world from an eligible selection of the largest companies by market capitalisation in each of the 61 sectors analysed.

 

The Red Eléctrica Group has been recognised by the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) as one of the most sustainable companies in the world after having achieved an overall score of 89 points. In this way, the Company has improved its position in the index by three points compared to the score it obtained in 2019 and has once again been included in the DJSI Europe.

In this year's review, the Index analysed 2,540 companies and after a rigorous analysis selected the 343 most sustainable companies that will be included in the index. For its part, the Group achieved the highest score, 100 out of 100 points, in 10 of the criteria assessed, highlighting the Company's management in terms of codes of conduct; innovation; materiality; social and environmental reporting; transmission and distribution; and labour practices.

According to Red Eléctrica’s Chairwoman, Beatriz Corredor, "this ranking in the main worldwide reference that measures the contribution of companies to sustainable development, reaffirms our strategic commitment to sustainability and drives us even further to work towards a business model based on criteria of excellence, integrity, innovation & transparency, and be a company that is capable of responding to the challenges of the future and global objectives".

A qualitative improvement

Red Eléctrica has been the company with the best score in the ‘Electric utilities’ sector in terms of materiality, codes of conduct, innovation, cybersecurity & system availability, social and environmental reporting, eco-efficiency, transmission and distribution and labour practices.

This recognition showcases the Group's commitment to the highest standards and to sustainability in order to contribute to the achievement of global objectives, among which noteworthy are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. Furthermore, the Company has consolidated its position in international markets as a benchmark company for socially responsible investment.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index, a version of the Dow Jones New York Stock Exchange Index, is made up of those companies that demonstrate a performance that is superior to that of their sector peers based on social, environmental and economic criteria. This index has become a key benchmark for socially responsible investors.
