With Red Eléctrica coordinating the entire process of restoring the electricity service in La Palma, the supply was fully restored at 10:26 am following the blackout recorded at 6:38 (local island time) this morning.

The incident – the causes of which are still under investigation, though it may have been triggered by the severe storm affecting the island at the time – occurred when all the thermal generation units supplying electricity demand in La Palma disconnected.

From that moment, the process of restoring the electricity supply began as the generation units at the Los Guinchos power station were progressively reconnected to the grid; initial start-up issues with some of the generation units caused a slight delay in the process.

Red Eléctrica is investigating the causes of the blackout and other incidents caused by the storm, while working closely with the relevant public authorities and providing all available information.
