In 2013, Red Eléctrica signed a collaboration agreement with the Government of Aragon to be get to know more about and map the territories used by this species for foraging.

In 2011, the Government of the Balearic Islands launched the Bonelli’s Eagle reintroduction plan in Majorca, a project in which Red Eléctrica, in collaboration with other entities, has contributed to the release of juvenile eagles, transferred from other Spanish regions.

With this project, Red Eléctrica offset a part of its CO2 emissions, collaborates on biodiversity conservation and contributes to the development of the local economies through the fact that reforestation works are carried out by local companies and organisations.

With the aim of ensuring the survival of the best preserved population of Bonelli's eagle in the Region of Murcia, and species also threatened, in May 2001 a natural area is declared as Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) Sierra de Almenara, Moreras and Cabo Cope.

The Department for Environment, together with ERZ-Endesa and Red Eléctrica de España, have launched the Project LIFE-Naturaleza for the improvement of power lines in ZEPAs in Aragón.

Red Eléctrica de España has collaborated with Doñana Biological Station (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) in a research study on the relations between the lesser krestel and electrical substations.

For more than 15 years now, Red Eléctrica has been developing an extensive programme of activities in the field of studying the interactions between birds and electrical power transmission facilities in an attempt to mitigate the incidence of these facilities on birdlife and favour compatibility in their use.
