Smart charging
In order for the introduction of electric vehicles to bring benefits to the electricity system as a whole, it will be necessary to develop a smart charging management system, which is sufficiently flexible to adapt to consumer preferences and, that catering to the needs of the electricity system, encourages vehicle charging outside of the peak hours of electricity demand.

This will require the development of smart meters and charging devices that allow vehicle-grid communication (smart grids) with the system operator, and the introduction of price signals, promoting energy deals with time-based pricing tariffs (hourly discrimination) that incentivise users to carry out smart charging during valley hours.

Aware of the importance of this, Red Eléctrica has designed an electric vehicle charging simulator that makes it possible to perform simulations of electric vehicles charging at a national level, considering factors such as the degree of intelligence of the charging infrastructure.
