Energy transition
Renewable energy is rising to the challenge posed by the coronavirus and the electricity it generates has risen in Spain by 3% in April, a month that will be remembered as having the lowest CO2 equivalent emissions from electricity generation since records began.

With the support of the Red Eléctrica Group
  • This year, the second edition of the School will introduce 55 young people to the shepherd profession and to other agricultural tasks such as cheese making and mountain ecology.
  • The program will run over the next four months, two of which will be devoted to work experience in the Sierra de Guadarrama and the Sierra Norte.

  • Francisco Polo, High Commissioner for España Nación Emprendedora, opened the Positive Energy + Demo Day event and stated that this initiative “represents the best of Spanish society and the importance of uniting to address major challenges”
  • During the event, the projects selected from the urgent call launched on 7 April and promoted by Enagás, Red Eléctrica, CLH, Iberdrola, bp, EIT InnoEnergy, Acciona, Capital Energy and DISA were announced
  • The projects belong to Spanish start-ups and offer innovative solutions for the new decarbonised energy model and social impact proposals to address COVID-19
  • In the next phase, the sponsoring companies will complete their analysis and, before the end of May, will enter into a partnership agreement with at least one start-up/scale-up

  • They were accompanied by the Chairwoman of the company, Beatriz Corredor, and the Chief Executive Officer, Roberto García Merino, as well as the Fourth Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, the Councillor of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid, María Eugenia Carballedo, and the Mayor of Alcobendas, Rafael Sánchez Acera.
  • The CECOEL has been a critical element in guaranteeing electricity supply to all homes and essential services since the declaration of the state of emergency.

Compared to the same month in 2019
  • 47.9% of the monthly generation came from renewable sources and 72.6% was produced from technologies that do not emit CO2 emissions.
  • Demand for electricity in the Balearic Islands fell by 27.6% and in the Canary Islands by 20.3% compared to the same month in 2019.

Financial results for the first quarter of 2020
  • The result for the first quarter of 2020 was €172.6 million, 9.7% down on last year.
  • In spite of the seriousness of the COVID-19 crisis and the unprecedented situation the country is currently undergoing, the Company, as sole transmission agent and operator of the Spanish electricity system, continues to guarantee the electricity supply and is progressively increasing the integration of energy from renewable sources.
