It breaks records in March
A lot has changed since the early 1990s, when solar PV in Spain meant just 0.10 MW of its power generation capacity. Solar PV energy is now claiming its place in the Spanish mix with 8,871 MW of installed capacity.

Evolution of the demand for electrical energy
  • Half of the monthly generation came from renewable sources and 75.6% was produced from technologies that do not emit CO2 emissions.
  • Compared to March 2019, the demand for electricity in the Balearic Islands fell 7.3% and decreased 8.9% in the Canary Islands.

2019, a turning point in Spain’s energy transition
  • During 2019, the installed power capacity coming from renewable sources on the Spanish peninsula experienced a 13.6% growth, with the commissioning of 6,528 ‘green’ MWs.
  • Wind power has become the number one technology regarding installed power capacity on the Spanish peninsula, followed by combined cycle that until now had been the leading technology.
  • Solar photovoltaic closed 2019 with an increase in installed generation capacity of 93.2% above the previous year.
