The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of October, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, fell 1% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand was 19,758 GWh, 2.5% lower than that registered in October 2011.

In the first ten months of the year, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, consumption was 1.6% below that registered last year. Gross electricity demand in this period was 210,629 GWh, 0.9% less than the same period 2011.

In October, wind power production reached 3,147 GWh an increase of 0.4% compared with the same period last year, and represented 14.7% of the total production.

Additionally, in October the generation originating from renewable energy sources represented 27.5% of the total production, a figure higher than that recorded in October 2011, which was 26.5%.

50.6% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
